Microsoft services hit by outage

A range of Microsoft services, including Outlook and Office 365, suffered an outage that lasted for a few hours on Monday.

The outage was reported both in New Zealand and across the world, affecting 365 and Teams.

The majority of services were back up on Monday afternoon but the situation is not yet fully resolved and it is still not clear what caused it in the first place.

“Our mitigation strategy was successful in allowing users to sign into the previously impacted services, the company said on its website.

“Our internal monitoring has validated this recovery and we have received positive confirmation from customer reports.

“We’ll continue to monitor the service and provide updates on full recovery to remaining impacted users.”

Some Exchange customers are reportedly still experiencing difficulties.

Nokia signs deal with BT for 5G networks

Nokia has signed a deal with BT to become the largest equipment provider for the network, effectively becoming the major beneficiary of Huawei’s block from the 5G networks in the UK.

Nokia will provide base stations and antennas so EE customers can make calls and send data across the 5G network, the BBC reports.

Nokia will also replace Huawei in BT’s 2G and 4G networks.

The UK government announced a ban in July, stopping networks from purchasing new Huawei equipment after December 31.

The new deal means Nokia will account for two-thirds of BT’s radio access kit.

Judge halts TikTok US ban

The TikTok saga in the US continues to make headlines, with a judge issuing a temporary injunction on the ban of the popular app from the app stores.

The ban was meant to go into effect at midnight on Monday but a judge issued the injunction on Sunday.

The decision was sealed, meaning no reason was given.

“We’re pleased that the court agreed with our legal arguments and issued an injunction preventing the implementation of the TikTok app ban,” TikTok said in a statement.
