Huawei says it is running out of processor chips for its smartphones, due to US sanctions against the company.
The AP reports that, as of next month, the smartphone manufacturer also won’t be able to make its own Kirin chipsets, citing economic pressure from the US.
At a recent conference, Huawei’s CEO for the consumer business unit Richard Yu said that, in the second round of US sanctions, Huawei’s chip producers “only accepted orders until May 15”.
“Production will close on September 15,” he added. “This year may be the last generation of Huawei Kirin high-end chips.”
