Everything you need to know about the Playstation 5 has been revealed, including the console's New Zealand pricing and a release date.

We have a price – and a release date

It’s coming before Christmas! Today’s livestream revealed that the Playstation 5 will be out on November 12 and will cost $649.95 for the digital edition, and $819.95 for the blu ray edition. That puts the PS5  in direct competition with Xbox’s new console, Series X, which is out on November 10. Christmas, it seems, just got a whole lot more expensive.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales looks freaking epic

Masks! Cyborgs! A Brooklyn night market? And oh-my-freaking-God the bridge is coming down! Perhaps the most spectacular showcase of the Playstation 5’s firepower was this sequence in the gameplay section of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the brand new Spider-Man game that looks all kinds of awesome. Watch the full trailer here.

A Harry Potter prequel game is happening

As has been heavily rumoured, the Harry Potter RPG Hogwarts: Legacy is happening. I’m no Potter stan but this looks like a solid instalment of wicked wizardry. Watch the trailer here.

Death Loop still looks like crazy superfun

The new game from the creators of the Dishonored series has an awesomely ultra-violent cartoon ’60s vibe that I’m dying to experience. Sadly, we can’t do that until it comes out in 2021. Today’s showcase gave us more details about just how all this works, with frenetic first-person gameplay, great gadgets and baddies dressed in wolf masks. Whatever Death Loop is, I’m here for it. Watch the trailer here.

If you go down to the woods today…

Look, put me in a freaky forest and I’m a happy camper. If that freaky forest is set in the wonky world of Resident Evil, it’s even better news. Resident Evil Village looks like a super faithful entry in the series, with all kinds of scares hidden behind those trees. Bring on the sleepless nights. Watch the trailer here.

What is Five Nights at Freddy’s Security Breach?

This mysterious new trailer popped up halfway through the stream, and it raised a few eyebrows. It’s fair to say this doesn’t have anything to do with local musos Fat Freddy’s Drop, so what is it? “Your friends are worried about you,” says a robotic voiceover as a camera scans through a futuristic building. “Please come help.” Watch the trailer here.

A new God of War is coming!

This is good news! God of War was one of the Playstation 4’s best titles and the sequel appears to be called Ragnarok. It showed up right at the end of the stream as a bit of a surprise tease, so it’s likely we’ll be finding out more about this one soon.

Six games will be available on launch

Come November 12, you’ll be able to play Astro’s Playroom, Demon’s Souls, Destruction AllStars, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Previously released games Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Fallout 4, God of War, Monster Hunter: World and Persona 5 will be available with a Playstation Plus subscription.

And that’s it! Let the countdown begin …
